AP European History
AP European History
Advanced Placement European History is a challenging course designed to be the equivalent of a freshman college Western Civilization survey course. This course covers the history of Europe from the Renaissance to the reunification of Germany. Students are expected to do a considerable amount of reading in both the major text and supplementary sources. All areas of history are covered, including social, political, economic, intellectual, cultural, gender, and art history.
Mastery of content is important, but of equal value are:
- study and research skills
- critical reading of primary and secondary sources
- making historical analogies
- using historical knowledge as a guide to present understanding and action
This course examines the development of European History since 1400 and focuses on the social, political, economic, intellectual, cultural, gender, and art history of people across Europe. Students will research, analyze and evaluate events, themes, and issues that have influenced and impacted the development of Europe.
