HC Media Students Take the Wheel in Road Safety Awareness with 2025 NRSF PSA Challenge

A group of Homer-Center media department seniors combined to conceptualize a creative idea for a national video competition hosted, in part, by SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).  Levi Loose, Lexi Mitchell, Noah Turk, Oshen Maratita, Jimmy Clawson, Ben Longwell, Ella Cook, and Hannah Arone submitted their concept for a public service announcement (PSA) in the 2025 National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF) PSA Challenge, focusing on the critical theme of “Sharing the Road.”

This year’s challenge invited students, aged 13–19, to address the unique safety challenges of driving near large vehicles like trucks and buses. Groups produced a two-minute video submission (or pitch), where participants aim to raise awareness about how these experiences differ from driving around regular cars and how responsible driving saves lives.

Submissions were completed in early May, through the national SADD website.  This competition is more than just another video project for the media department, it's also an opportunity to win up to $2,750 and have the winning PSA professionally produced by an Emmy Award-winning team and broadcast across 160+ TV stations nationwide.

Recently we received notification that Homer-Centers' submission was selected as one of 10 finalists, nation-wide!  Each of the ten finalists will receive $250, with one grand prize winner earning an additional $2,500 and national recognition.

Information for the grand prize winner is still pending.
