Dear Parents, 

My name is Laura Root, and I am the Jr./Sr. High Choral Director. I’m very excited to work with you child, and explore the art of vocal music, and piano accompaniment!

This year, the students will be working on various choral pieces that will aid in their knowledge of the choral arts and singing. We will be learning vocal production/techniques, sight-singing through solfege, reading music, and independent part-singing. Students in the choir will develop musicianship and specific skills through ensemble singing.

The HC choral ensembles will have two concerts, the Christmas Concert , and the Spring Concert. These concerts serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and music goals. Students MUST participate in all scheduled performances unless prior arrangements have been discussed with Miss Root. The dates for the concerts this year are: December 12, 2023 (Christmas Concert), and April 26, 2024 (Spring Concert). Please mark these on your calendars! 

 Other opportunities for performing include County Chorus, District Chorus, and IUP CHICC ensemble. These are not mandatory, and are on an audition basis, but I encourage as many to participate as possible!
